FAQs
What does Xago do?
Xago helps you move money into or out of cryptocurrency quickly and securely. With just a few simple steps, you can send and receive money globally, making it easier to manage transactions across different countries and currencies.
When was Xago established?
Xago was established in September 2016 and operates from Cape Town, South Africa, focusing on providing innovative financial solutions in the cryptocurrency space.
Who founded Xago?
Xago was co-founded by Mark Chirnside, Jurgen Kuhnel and Sonya Kuhnel. Together, they bring extensive experience in finance, technology and blockchain to drive the company’s vision.
What is a gateway?
The Xago gateway allows money and other forms of value to move in and out of the XRP Ledger, facilitating seamless transactions. Xago acts as both an issuing gateway and an exchange, providing a secure and efficient platform for users.
What are cryptocurrencies?
Cryptocurrencies are digital coins or tokens that are traded, verified and transacted electronically by a community of users. They offer a decentralised way of managing financial transactions across the globe.
What is XRP?
XRP is the native cryptocurrency on the XRP Ledger. It was designed specifically to enable fast, low-cost international payments, offering a quicker and more affordable alternative to traditional methods of sending money across borders.
What are stablecoins?
Stablecoins are digital currencies that are backed 1:1 by traditional fiat currency, such as the US dollar, which is held in a bank. They provide the benefits of cryptocurrencies, such as easy transfers and global accessibility, while minimising the risk of price fluctuations typically seen with other cryptocurrencies.
What does Xago charge for transactions?
At Xago, we aim to provide competitive rates for global money movement. We charge a 0.25% fee for trading and a 0.50% fee for currency conversions, ensuring that our users can move their money at affordable rates, whether they are trading or converting between currencies.
Does Xago require KYC?
Yes, Xago requires all individual clients to go through a Know Your Customer (KYC) process, which includes providing a copy of your ID or passport, a selfie or liveness check (a photo of your face, ID or passport and the current date), and a recent proof of address, ensuring the security and compliance of all transactions.
These requirements also apply to individual beneficiaries, as well as individual sub-accounts in Xpand.
Does Xago require KYB?
Yes, Xago requires businesses to onboard through our Know Your Business (KYB) process. This can be done online or with assistance from our support staff at support@xago.io, ensuring that businesses meet regulatory standards. We also require some documentation for corporate beneficiaries.
Please contact support@xago.io for the full list of requirements.
What is an XDA (Xago Discretionary Allowance)?
The XDA (Xago Discretionary Allowance) allows South African residents to purchase up to R1 million worth of cryptocurrency annually without needing additional approval from SARS. For taxpayers, the allowance is increased to R10 million per year, subject to verification of tax compliance.
How do I use the exchange function?
Xago offers four different ways to trade or convert your currencies, each designed to suit different needs:
- Instant Orders: Buy or sell XRP instantly at the best available price, perfect for those who need quick execution.
- Limit Orders: Set a specific price at which you want to buy or sell XRP, allowing for greater control over the price of your transactions.
- Pegged Orders: Buy or sell XRP at a price pegged to the USD/XRP exchange rate, ensuring your trade reflects the current international value of XRP.
- Conversions: Convert one currency to another using our conversion function. Please carefully review the quoted rate before proceeding, as it is based on the best available price on the order book, and market-related pricing cannot be guaranteed.
Can I sign up as an individual?
While Xago works primarily with businesses, individuals are also welcome to sign up to buy, sell, send and receive XRP, and access global cryptocurrency markets.
What about security?
Xago enforces two-factor authentication (2FA) for actions such as logging in, managing beneficiaries, and doing transactions, ensuring your account and transactions are secure, wherever you are in the world.
How do I use Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?
- Install an Authenticator app on your mobile device from the Play Store or App Store.
- When creating an account, scan the QR code or enter the code provided on the registration screen, ensuring secure global access to your account.
What are recovery codes?
Recovery codes help you restore your 2FA if you lose your device or delete the app. Xago provides 8 one-time use codes when you create an account, ensuring you can regain access to your account securely, no matter where you are.
Click on ‘Forgot PIN’ and use one of those codes along with your 2FA code to reset your PIN. After that, you can log in as usual.
What is a Market Maker?
Market Makers play an important role in the XRP ecosystem by providing liquidity, which helps to lower transaction costs and keep spreads tight. If you are interested in becoming a Market Maker and contributing to the global cryptocurrency market, feel free to contact us at info@xago.io for more information.
What do I do if I lose my Authenticator app?
If you’ve lost your device or deleted the app, contact support@xago.io for help accessing your account, ensuring you can continue to manage your global transactions securely.
What should I do if my phone number has changed?
If you need to update your registered phone number, please contact support@xago.io. You will need to send a selfie holding up the ID used for your account registration, along with the new phone number. We will verify and update your details.
What should I do if I’ve lost both my Authenticator app and PIN?
Please contact support@xago.io for further instructions on how to recover your account.
How do I add a child-account (Xpand)?
Xago offers businesses the ability to add child-accounts (Sub-Accounts) under a main account. This feature is useful for managing client funds while ensuring that all funds roll up to the main account. For example, if your business assists international students in converting NGN to USD and ensuring same-day payouts, Xago manages the background operations to ensure compliance and smooth processing. For assistance, please contact support@xago.io.
How do I make a deposit?
- For XRP: Go to the ‘Wallet’ section and click on ‘Receive’ under the XRP tab. You will be shown an XRP address and a TAG. Be sure to include the TAG when making the deposit as it identifies your account for the funds.
- For other currencies: Navigate to the ‘Wallet’ section and click on ‘Deposit’ under your chosen currency. You will be provided with the relevant deposit details. At the top of the page, different deposit options will be displayed — choose the one that best suits your needs.
Please note that all bank and XRP deposits must originate from your own accounts. We are unable to accept deposits from third parties or sources that have not gone through our compliance process.

What currencies do you support?

However, we can accommodate additional currencies and payout options through these partnerships. For a complete and up-to-date list of supported currencies, please visit: https://xago.io/supported-
How do I add a beneficiary?
To add a beneficiary, navigate to the Beneficiary tab in your account and click on the Plus button. You will need to choose whether you are adding yourself as a beneficiary or someone else. If you are adding another beneficiary, you will be required to submit KYC (Know Your Customer) documentation for that individual. This applies to both fiat and cryptocurrency beneficiaries. Once the beneficiary is approved, you will be able to send funds to them. The options for beneficiaries include:
- Bank: Add the beneficiary’s bank account details.
- Internal: Send funds to another Xago user.
- Crypto Address: We currently support XRP, USDT and USDC as cryptocurrency options for beneficiaries.
How do I send to a beneficiary?
On the Xago Wallet page, click the ‘Send’ button. From there, follow the prompts to navigate through the steps required to send funds to your chosen beneficiary.
How do I create an API Key?
Please note that API keys can provide third-party applications with access to your Xago account, so use caution when dealing with API keys and external software. To create an API key, navigate to the API Keys page and click the Plus button. You will be asked to give your API key a unique name and specify its usage. You can allow the API to trade, send funds, or simply read data. For added security, you can also limit which beneficiaries the API key can interact with, giving you full control over its security and usage.
